When is a JHSC required in Ontario?

Under OHSA s.9, a JHSC is required in workplaces with 20 or more regularly employed workers. Workplaces with 6-19 workers require a Health and Safety Representative. Construction projects with 20+ workers also require a JHSC per O.Reg. 213/91.

How often must the JHSC meet?

The OHSA requires the JHSC to meet at least quarterly. Best practice is monthly meetings, with additional meetings scheduled as needed (after incidents, during changes, etc.). Regular scheduling demonstrates commitment to the safety program.
