Fire-safe hot work procedures for welding, cutting, brazing, and grinding operations, including permits, fire watch protocols, and area preparation requirements.
NFPA 51B and most insurance standards require a fire watch for a minimum of 60 minutes after hot work is completed. Some insurers (FM Global) require 120 minutes. The permit should specify the required duration.
NFPA 51B requires all combustible materials to be moved at least 35 feet (10.7 metres) from the hot work operation. Where combustibles cannot be moved, they must be protected with fire-resistant blankets or shields.
