Arc flash hazard analysis, shock hazard boundaries, PPE selection, and electrical safe work procedures per CSA Z462 and IEEE 1584.
CSA Z462 recommends updating the arc flash study at least every 5 years, or whenever a major modification occurs: utility transformer change, new feeder, protective device replacement, or changes to operating configuration. Many facilities re-study every 3 years.
They are complementary. LOTO eliminates the hazard by de-energizing equipment. Arc flash analysis addresses the residual risk when energized work is justified or during switching operations. CSA Z462 requires both programs.
