What does an Engineer of Record do?

The EOR provides professional engineering authority for a project. This includes sealing design drawings, reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, approving field changes, conducting site reviews, and providing regulatory sign-off. The EOR carries professional liability for the engineering design.

When do I need an Engineer of Record?

In Ontario, any building construction or renovation requiring a building permit needs a P.Eng or architect of record. Additionally, ESA requires a P.Eng for electrical installations in commercial and industrial buildings, and TSSA requires P.Eng oversight for pressure vessels and elevating devices.
